New advertising campaign for Cadbury’s ‘Celebrations’ range for Diwali

Mumbai, October 16, 2007: Cadbury India has launched a new television commercial for its Cadbury Celebrations Diwali gifting range. The exciting new communication featuring Mr. Amitabh Bachchan speaks of the appeal of chocolates as a special gift during Diwali to revive close friendships.

Over the years, Cadbury Celebrations has been driving the message of ‘A gift that helps foster relationships’. The new commercial seeks to extend it to the special relationship that we share as ‘Friends’. Friends are people we choose for ourselves. And yet, its not very often that we find the time to really tell them how much they mean to us. Friendship is a great bond, and like all bonds it needs to be cherished and nurtured. Diwali being a great time to tell all your friends how much you cherish them forms the plot of this new Cadbury Celebrations television commercial.

The new television commercial hits the channels in the third week of October and blends an interesting plot, humor and childhood nicknames like ‘Laten’ and ‘Kutub Minar’ to revive memories of close friendships in viewers. The television starts with a shot of Mr. Bachchan reading a newspaper. He sees his childhood friend’s picture (played by Sachin Khedekar) being awarded as ‘Businessman of the year’. He calls to wish his friend, but can’t get through him. That’s when, his mother (played by Zora Sehgal) tells him, its Diwali, why call, go surprise him with something meetha. Mr. Bachchan reaches Sachin’s place, asks the watchman to call ’Lanten’. Who’s Lanten? There is no Lanten here, replies the watchman. How he meets ‘Lanten’ and  special gift - Cadbury Celebrations Rich Dry Fruit pack revives their bond becomes the crux of the commercial.

The commercial has been created by Contract Advertising (India) Pvt Ltd. Sujit Sarkar has directed the commercial. Along with television, the other media channels used will be print, radio, outdoor and extensive mall activities in key centres across the country.
